Professional Placements Abroad
Professional Placements Abroad is a mobility programme organised by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports through INTEF, aimed at promoting professional and cultural exchanges between schools and teachers from different European countries. It is addressed to teachers providing non-university education regulated by the LOE. The programme is implemented through two initiatives: one for teachers and another for schools.
Professional Placements Abroad for Teachers
The Professional Placements programme for teachers is an initiative through which selected teachers have the opportunity to undertake two-week placements in educational institutions in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, Malta, Norway, the Netherlands, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden and Switzerland. This offers them the chance to learn about and reflect on different education systems, school organisation and management models, to create or participate in professional communities at a European level, as well as to promote the learning of foreign languages and encourage cultural exchanges. These placements include a grant of €1,500 for participants and are managed through a call for applications published annually.
Professional Placements Abroad for Schools
On the other hand, and in a complementary manner, also on an annual basis, a call for applications is opened for all publicly funded educational institutions throughout the country that are willing to host teachers participating in a similar mobility programme from the same countries included in the call for teachers.
Both programmes aim to promote the improvement of participants’ professional competences, both in their specific area of work and in the languages used during the placement, the exchange of good teaching practices through participation in the life of a European school, to encourage a greater appreciation of European cultural diversity, and to foster joint projects within the European educational community. These experiences often serve as a starting point for joint educational projects such as Erasmus+, eTwinning, or exchange trips, and are shared through the Professional Placements blog, where, in addition to learning about other teachers’ experiences, detailed information about the procedure can be found.
