Abstract

An education quasi-market: the subsidized private school in Chile

This article analyses the Chilean experience of implementing school autonomy by way of .subsidised private. schools, which have the dual quality of being private schools and receiving state funds. This experience is based on theoretical neo-liberal approaches that combine concepts such as free choice for families, educational vouchers and autonomy to establish schools, allowing these schools to compete with municipal schools and among themselves. The characteristics and consequences of this educational quasi market are reviewed. Salto de línea

Resumen

Este artículo analiza la experiencia chilena de implementar la autonom ía escolar a través de los colegios «particular subvencionados», los cuales comparten la doble cualidad de pertenecer a una administración privada y recibir recursos públicos. Esta experiencia se basa en las orientaciones teóricas neoliberales que combinan conceptos como libre elección por parte de las familias, vouchers educacionales y autonomía para crear colegios, que les permiten competir con los colegios municipales y entre sí. Se discute sobre las características y consecuencias de este cuasi mercado educacional.
