Information about Spain and the English Language Assistants (ELA) Programme

Important progress has been made in resolving the issues that affected the Foreign Language Assistants Programme in Spain, and a new official call was published by the Ministry of Education, Vocational Skills and Sports on 19 May, 2026. The call includes Ireland among the countries for which the call is open to receive English Language Assistants (ELA) for the 2026–2027 academic year.

For Irish candidates

New applicants

Following on from the letter dated 30th April 2026 to applicants of the English Language Assistants (ELA) programme, we wish to advise that unfortunately due to continued administrative issues, it will not be possible to offer any new places on the ELA programme in Spain for the 2026-2027 academic year. It is anticipated that Spain will be in a position to resume participation in the ELA programme in the future.

We greatly appreciate your interest in Spain as an ELA destination and regret the inconvenience caused to applicants.

Renewal candidates

If you are applying for a renewal, please carefully read points 2.2 and 4 of the new ELA call published by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports. These sections explain the renewal process through the Profex 2 application. All the information and instructions, including the Profex application instructions in English, are available on the official programme webpage:

The renewal application period will be open from 2 June at 08:01 to 30 June at 19:59 (Madrid time).

Asesoría técnica en Dublín

La Asesoría de Educación es parte de la Consejería de Educación en el Reino Unido e Irlanda, dependiente del Ministerio de Educación, Formación Profesional y Deportes español. Está presente en Irlanda a través de la Consejería de Educación de la Embajada de España en Dublín. Su objetivo principal es acercar la lengua y la cultura españolas a profesores, hispanistas y estudiantes, así como, en general, a todas las personas interesadas en España y el mundo hispánico.

La Consejería desempeña, entre otras, las siguientes funciones:

1. Prestar asesoramiento y asistencia técnica, informar de las políticas educativas y realizar funciones de apoyo a la Embajada de Irlanda en materia educativa.
2. Coordinar las convocatorias y promover los programas que el Ministerio de Educación, Formación Profesional y Deportes a través de la Unidad de Acción Educativa en el Exterior tiene en Irlanda.
3. Reforzar las relaciones existentes con instituciones y comunidades educativas.
4. Organizar actividades de formación del profesorado de español.
