In 2009, the Department of Education of the Republic of The Philippines (DepEd) , launched the Special Program in Foreign Language (SPFL), which allowed the introduction of other languages, including Spanish, as elective subjects in secondary education. Spanish is also offered in various vocational training programs. Through the SPFL, Spanish is offered in selected schools in most of the 17 regions of the country. Students can study Spanish in grades 7 and 8, with the possibility of extending it to grades 9 and 10, equivalent to our four years of Secondary Education.
