The Language Assistant Program for Indian citizens in Spain has been reinstated, and the call for applications was published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) on May 19, 2026. The application period will be open from June 2, 2026 (8:01 a.m. GMT+1) to June 30, 2026 (7:59 p.m. GMT+1).

The Ministry of Education does not charge any fees for registration in this program. If you receive any payment request to submit your application, you are not applying to the official Ministry of Education program.

The age limit for new applicants is 45 years old, and the program will run from November 1, 2026, to May 31, 2027.

In the case of India, it will not be possible to remain in the program for more than two years, even if the visa is renewed.

Requirements for Indian citizens to participate in the 2026-2027 program:

  • Possess a C1 level of English, accredited by one of the English certificates listed in this documentPDF, which is valid at the time of application. Certificates not listed in this document, or certificates marked with a (2) in the document, if their issue date is prior to September 30, 2022, will not be accepted.
  • Prior knowledge of Spanish, minimum level A2, accredited by DELE or SIELE GLOBAL.
  • Be a citizen of India.
  • Be a university graduate or be in the final year of a bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Be in good physical and mental health, without limitations that affect their ability to teach.
  • Have no criminal record, an essential requirement for visa application.

Important: Candidates who participated in the program during the 2024/2025 academic year or earlier may participate again, provided it is their second year as language assistants. They must pass the pre-selection process. It is essential that they attach the favorable report from the educational center where they were assigned in Spain, but they will not need to submit English or Spanish language certificates.

New applicants for the 2026-2027 academic year who have submitted the pre-selection form can begin this process as soon as possible; it is not necessary to wait for the application period to open:

1. Create or update your profile on Profex 2Nueva ventana (Profex 2 instructionsPDF). Please note:

  • Your Profex 2 registration number must match your passport number. The passport you use to apply for this program must be valid for at least one year from your intended date of entry into Spain. Since the program is scheduled to begin on November 1, 2026, passports must be valid until at least November 1, 2027. However, due to potential delays in receiving the Letter of Appointment and the time required to obtain a visa, the program may begin for some applicants in December 2026 or even January 2027. To prepare for any eventuality, your passport must be valid until the end of January 2028. If your current passport is not valid for the aforementioned period, renew it before creating your profile in Profex 2.
  • Passport validity: your passport must be valid for at least one year from the expected date of entry into Spain. Given that the program begins on 1 November 2026, your passport must be valid until at least 1 November 2027 (longer validity if, for any reason, you join after 1 November). If your current passport is not valid for the period mentioned, you must renew it before creating your profile on Profex 2.
  • If you already have a Profex 2 registration number, but it doesn't match the passport you'll be using to participate in the program, request an update to your Profex 2 registration number before submitting your application. Follow these steps:
    • Upload the passport you will use to apply for the program, scanned in PDF format, to the “Attached Documents” section in Profex 2.
    • Write to the Ministry of Education at auxiliares.extra@educacion.gob.ese-mail informing them that you have uploaded a new passport and need to change your registration number in Profex 2.
    • Once reviewed, the Ministry's administrators will send you a confirmation email with instructions. (Check your spam folder and follow the instructions).
  • If you have dual nationality, Indian and from a European Union (EU) country other than Spain, register in Profex 2 with your EU passport (with the same validity period mentioned above) and select your EU country in the "Nationality" section. When submitting your application, in the "Relevant Information" section, you must select the option "India – Spanish Education Office in India." Upload both passports to Profex 2: your EU passport for program registration and your Indian passport, which entitles you to participate in the "India – Spanish Education Office in India" option. You must enter Spain with your EU passport; a visa is not required, which expedites the process. Once in Spain, register with the EU Citizens' Registry to obtain your NIE (Foreigner Identification Number).
  • If you have dual Indian and Spanish nationality, you must register in Profex 2 as an Indian citizen, using your Indian passport, as this program is intended for foreign nationals, not Spanish citizens. However, you must enter Spain with your Spanish passport and will not need a visa.

2. Upload to Profex 2 your degree or academic transcript that verifies your completed or current studies in 2026 (you must be enrolled in at least your second year of university). It is essential to:

  • Include all pages of your university degree in the PDF file if you have completed your studies, or all pages of your academic transcript if you are currently enrolled in undergraduate studies.

  • Ensure that the documents are official and have been issued by the university's registrar's office. Screenshots, editable files, or self-generated PDFs will be considered unofficial documents and will not be accepted.

3. Upload a recent letter of reference from a professor or employer (dated no earlier than September 1, 2025) to Profex 2. The letter must:

  • Be addressed to the Spanish Ministry of Education and be no longer than one page.
  • Be written in English or in Spanish.
  • Be on the letterhead of the university, company, or hiring organization.
  • Include the contact information of the professor or employer.
  • Be dated.
  • Be signed by the professor or employer.
  • The professor or employer must explain how and when they met the applicant and describe their qualifications for being a language assistant.

4. Upload a letter of motivation for participating in the program to Profex 2. The letter must:

  • Be addressed to the Spanish Ministry of Education.
  • Be written in English, with a length of 250-300 words.
  • Be dated.
  • Be signed by the applicant.

5. Download the Health Statement and Sworn Declaration (Addendum I)PDF, sign both the statement and the declaration, and upload the document with both signatures to Profex 2.

6. Create and submit your application on Profex 2 once the application period opens. Please refer to and follow the steps in the handbook for new applicants, which we will publish on this page.
