The new application cycle for Language Assistants in Spain for the academic year 2026-2027 will open soon will be open from June 2, 2026, through June 30, 2026

NEW candidates from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Malta, Switzerland and the United Kingdom should apply for this programme through their national organizations or the Education Offices of the Ministry of Spain, depending on each country.

Candidates from Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Côte d'Ivoire, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Iceland, India, Luxembourg, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Oceanic countries (Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu), Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Sweden, Thailand, Tunisia and the United States should follow the instructions of the corresponding Ministry of Education of Spain and submit their applications through the Profex 2 application.

Description

Ayudas a graduados o estudiantes universitarios de al menos segundo curso de países con los que existe acuerdo bilateral para ser auxiliar de conversación extranjero en centros educativos públicos españoles.

Grants for graduates or university students who have completed at least their second year from countries with which there is a bilateral agreement, to be language assistants in public schools in Spain.

Citizens from the following countries (having a signed Memorandum of Understanding with Spain) with a college degree or having completed two full college academic years:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria (English), Canada (English or French), China (English or Chinese), Czech Republic (English), Denmark (English), Finland (English), France, Germany, Hungary (English), Iceland (English), India (English), Ireland, Italy, Ivory Coast (French), Luxemburg (English or French), Malta, Morocco (French), Netherlands (English), New Zealand, Norway (English), Oceania Countries (Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu), Philippines (English), Poland (English), Portugal, Singapore (English), Sweden (English), Switzerland (German or French), Tunisia (French), United Kingdom, United States.

Requirements

Requirements will vary depending on the citizenship of the applicant. Applicants should contact their corresponding International Organization or Education Office of the Embassy of Spain PDF for specific requirements.

The general requirements for new applicants and renewals are:

  • Be a citizen or permanent resident of one of the countries listed above that has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Spain.
  • Have a conferred college degree or be currently enrolled as a 2nd year or higher college student.
  • Be aged 18 - 45. You must be at least 18 years old as of January 1, 2026, and not be 45 or over on January 1, 2027, to participate in the program as a new candidate.
  • Submit a Health Statement (Appendix I) confirming that the candidate does not suffer from any illness or special condition that would make it impossible for them to carry out their duties as a language assistant. (only new applicants).
  • Submit a signed Sworn Declaration of knowledge and acceptance of the requirements of the language assistants program. (Appendix I). (only new applicants).
  • Submit a signed Statement of Purpose (only new applicants).
  • Submit a letter of recommendation written by a professor or employer and dated no earlier than September 1, 2025 (only new applicants).
  • Applicants from Bulgaria, China, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Norway, Poland, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Singapore, and Sweden must accredit a C2 level of English.
  • Applicants form Morocco and Tunisia must accredit a C2 level of French.
  • Provide a clean Certificate of Sexual Offences. This certificate may be required at any stage of the process (renewals must request the certificate directly from the Spanish police).
  • Participants from previous calls who have withdrawn twice consecutively, even if justified, will be excluded.
  • Participants who, in previous academic years, left the program after having already joined it will also be excluded.

Funding

Language and culture assistants will receive a monthly stipend of 800 euros as an allowance towards room and board. For some regional education offices, the allowance may be higher and accordingly, the number of hours in the classroom will increase. Language assistants are expected to dedicate 14 - 16 hours a week towards classroom collaboration at their schools. For further questions, please refer to the following information:

NEW Applicants:

  • New applicants from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg (French), Malta, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom must apply for participation in the program through the international organization that corresponds to their country of origin, within the deadline and in form and manner established by the given organization. These candidates will be subsequently included in the Profex 2 platform. They will be informed of their username and password so that they can log in to their account and accept the position awarded to them, providing the documents requested.
  • New applicants from Australia, Bulgaria, Brazil, Canada, China, Côte d'Ivoire, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Iceland, India, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, New Zealand, Philippines, Oceania countries (Fiji, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu), Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Sweden, Tunisia, the United States, should apply through the Education Office of the Embassy of Spain pertaining to each country. Application Statuses on PROFEX 2:

  • En Revisión: The online application has been submitted and will be reviewed at a later date.
  • Admitida: The application has been reviewed and meets all the requirements.
  • Excluida Subsanable: Applicants who receive an email requesting missing documents or modifications should refer to Instructions for Corrections on Profex2 PDF.
  • Candidato Seleccionado: You have been awarded a placement to a regional education office. You have 3 days to accept the placement.
  • Plaza aceptada: The applicant has accepted the placement.
  • Plaza rechazada: The applicant does not accept the placement. Another placement will NOT be offered during the current cycle. The applicant may apply again to the program for the next cycle.

New Immigration Law

  • New applicants must submit their visa application at their local Consulate General of Spain two months before the start date indicated in the Placement Letter.
  • Renewal Candidates (first renewal) must apply for the renewal of their TIE through the Mercurio platform using their digital certificate:

DATA PROTECTION

In compliance with current regulations, the data of applicants will be processed by the Directorate General for Educational Planning and Management and incorporated into the process of “Calling for teacher mobility programs and training of Spanish teachers abroad”, managed by the Department for Educational Actions Abroad, la Unidad de Accion Educativa Exterior (Paseo del Prado 28, 28014 Madrid).

The purpose of the processing of personal data is the management and processing of applicants' applications based on Article 6.1 e) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679, Law 40/2006, of December 14, on the Statute of Citizenship Abroad and Royal Decree 1027/1993, of June 25, regulating educational actions abroad.

The data, which originates from the person concerned on the basis of a registration form, will be kept for the time necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected and will be transferred to the educational offices of the countries participating in the cycle.

The security measures implemented correspond to those provided for in Annex II (security measures) of Royal Decree 3/2010, of January 8, which regulates the National Security Scheme in the field of electronic administration and the order ECD/298/2018, of March 12, which approves the information security policy in the field of electronic administration of the MECD.

Data subjects may exercise their rights under articles 15 to 22 of the Regulation before the Data Protection Delegate (dpd@educacion.gob.es e-mail), through the Electronic Headquarters of the Ministry, in person at the registry offices or by mail. They may also file a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency Nueva ventana, the supervisory authority for the protection of personal data.
