Language Assistants in Spain – Thailand and Singapore

2026–2027 Call for Applications

The Spanish Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports offers placements for foreign language assistants in Spanish schools for the 2026–2027 academic year.

This call is open to applicants from Thailand and Singapore who wish to take part in the programme as language assistants in schools in Spain.

Application period

The official application period will be open:

From 2 June 2026 (08:01 GMT+1) to 30 June 2026 (19:59 GMT+1)

Important notice

The Spanish Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports does not charge any fee to apply for this programme.

If you receive any request for payment in order to submit your application, you are not applying through the official Ministry programme.

General requirements

Applicants from Thailand and Singapore may apply provided that they meet the general requirements established in the official call published by the Spanish Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports for foreign language assistants in Spain.

New applicants must meet, among others, the following requirements:

  • Hold Thai or Singaporean nationality, or permanent residence in Thailand or Singapore.
  • Hold a university degree or be enrolled as a university student, at least in the second year of studies, by the application deadline.
  • Be under 45 years of age on 1 January 2027.
  • Submit a signed declaration stating that they do not suffer from any illness or physical or psychological condition that would prevent them from carrying out their duties as a language assistant.
  • Submit a signed declaration acknowledging and accepting the conditions of the programme.
  • Submit a signed motivation letter.
  • Submit a reference letter or report from a lecturer, teacher or employer dated no earlier than September 2025.
  • Provide a negative certificate of sexual offences, which may be required at any stage of the selection process.
  • Successfully complete the compulsory pre-selection interview organised by the Education Office for Southeast Asia.

Applicants who have withdrawn from previous editions of the programme twice in succession, even for justified reasons, as well as those who have left the programme after joining it in previous academic years, will be excluded.

Application and selection procedure

Step 1 – University pre-selection

Applicants must first be pre-selected by their university through a recommendation letter or equivalent document.

Step 2 – Mandatory contact with the Education Office

Once pre-selected by their university, applicants must contact the Education Office for Southeast Asia through the official email address specifically set up for this call:

Step 3 – Submission of documents for prior review

Applicants must send the required documents to:

for prior review by the Education Office before uploading anything to PROFEX 2Nueva ventana

The documents to be submitted are as follows:

  • copy of passport or identity document;
  • proof of nationality or permanent residence in Thailand or Singapore;
  • academic documentation confirming that the applicant holds a university degree or is enrolled as a university student, at least in the second year of studies, by the application deadline;
  • recommendation letter or equivalent university pre-selection document;
  • health declaration;
  • signed declaration acknowledging and accepting the conditions of the programme;
  • signed motivation letter;
  • reference letter or report from a lecturer, teacher or employer, dated no earlier than September 2025;
  • negative certificate of sexual offences, if already available.

Step 4 – Prior document review by the Education Office

The Education Office will review each applicant’s documentation individually.

IMPORTANT – Prior approval required before interview

Only applicants whose documentation has been previously reviewed and approved by the Education Office will be invited to interview.

No interview invitation will be issued unless the documentation has been reviewed and approved in advance by the Education Office.

Applicants whose documentation has not been approved:

  • will not be invited to interview;
  • will not be able to continue in the selection process;
  • will not be eligible for approval of their PROFEX 2Nueva ventana application by the Education Office.

Furthermore:

Applicants must not upload any documents to PROFEX 2Nueva ventana until they have received explicit instructions from the Education Office.

Step 5 – Mandatory interview

Once the documents have been reviewed and approved, the Education Office will assign an interview date.

The interview is compulsory for all applicants.

Step 6 – Instructions following the interview

Once the interview has been successfully completed, applicants will receive a message from the Education Office with specific instructions to continue with the process.

This will include:

  • completing the application in PROFEX 2Nueva ventana
  • uploading the required documents to the platform.

Step 7 – Submission in PROFEX 2Nueva ventana and follow-up communication

Once the application has been submitted through PROFEX 2Nueva ventana, applicants must notify the Education Office via the same official email address:

Step 8 – Review and approval of the PROFEX 2Nueva ventana application

The Education Office will review the application submitted through PROFEX 2Nueva ventana and proceed with its validation.

Step 9 – Final allocation of placements

Final allocation of placements is the sole responsibility of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sports.

Approval of documentation or completion of the interview does not in any case guarantee a placement.

Final allocation will depend, among other factors, on:

  • number of places available;
  • participating autonomous communities in Spain;
  • applicant’s academic profile;
  • overall assessment of the application.
