Further informationNueva ventana

The Malaspina Awards are a recognition granted by the Embassy of Spain in Canberra and the Association of Spanish Researchers in Australia-Pacific (SRAP) to ONE person and ONE organization that have made a significant contribution to the strengthening of relations between the two countries in the fields of culture, science, research and/or technology.

These awards are named after Alejandro Malaspina, who led the Spanish Scientific Expedition around the world between 1789 and 1794. Renowned navigators, naturalists and scientists were part of his crew, conducting studies in natural history, cartography, ethnography, astronomy, hydrography and medicine in Latin America, the Pacific and Australia. Less well known are the painters, draftsmen, writers and chroniclers who were also part of that expedition and whose work was essential for the dissemination of those scientific studies.

The 2025 edition will recognize outstanding contributions in all fields of research, not only in science and technology, but also in the humanities, culture, art and social sciences.
